The Earth
Domains: Nature, Life, Grave, Unity
The Earth has also been called Melora, the Mother, Wildmother or many other names. It is the goddess of growth and life. Like the Sun, it is ungendered, but obviously tends to be associated with feminine descriptions such as “mother”, and is more often referred to as female or neither than male. It is prayed to for good harvests, good health, and safe births among others, and is as such the most prevalent deity in most common people’s everyday life. It is also the one who is said to grant the gift of magic to the Druids. It is often depicted as an androgynous or female humanoid, dressed in nothing or in plain clothes of a farmer or worker, with vines growing all over its body and animals resting on its shoulders and arms.
It is said that when the Sun kissed the Earth, and they both awakened, the Earth immediately set to work Creating. With love and devotion it created plants and animals - from the smallest moss and insect, to the Heart trees of the forests and the dragons flying above. Unlike the Sun, the Earth is forgiving and kind, but it cares equally for all of its creations. It will not spare a deer from the wolves, or a butterfly that has been caught in a spider’s web. Instead it will lovingly welcome the deer and the butterfly back into its arms to rest, promising that its children will continue to live and thrive, and that their body feeds its other creations.
The Earth is often attributed for creating other gods as well. While the Moons are often considered the daughters of the Sun, the Storm, the Homekeeper and Inspiration have all been seen as children of the Earth.
